Background: Platelet activation and aggregation plays an essential role in the for-mation of coronary artery thrombosis. Nowadays, the Clopidogrel is administered oral-ly as an inhibitor of platelet aggregation. Due to the high price of the original brand of Clopidogrel (Plavix), an Iranian brand of Clopidogrel (Osvix) has been produced. This study was conducted to evaluate the effectiveness, s...

Genetic Polymorphisms of Estrogen Receptors in Iranian Women with Diabetes and Coronary Artery Disease

Estrogen might play an important role in the pathogenesis of diabetes mellitus type 2. Estrogens inhibit diabetes via distinct mechanisms particularly by reducing both hyperglycemia and plasma insulin levels. Estrogen exerts its physiological effects mainly through estrogen receptors including α and β types. Estrogen receptors are found in many tissues that participate in the pathogenesis of ty...

Changes in Serum Levels of FABP4 and HsCRP after Administration of Omega-3 Fatty Acids Separately or + Vitamin E in Patients with Coronary Artery Disease

Background and purpose: Inflammatory markers of A-FABP and HsCRP play an important role in progression of cardiovascular disease. Anti-inflammatory and anti-platelet aggregation effects of omega-3 fatty acids are known. The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of omega-3 and omega-3+ vitamin E supplements on serum levels of these inflammatory markers. Materials and methods: This d...

Platelet function testing in patients with coronary artery disease: is the Who and the When any clearer than the What and the What then?

Antiplatelet therapy is one of the central pillars of treatment for patients with coronary artery disease. Aspirin and clopidogrel, the most widely used adenosine 5 diphosphate (ADP)-receptor antagonist, have each been shown to incrementally reduce the risk of recurrent adverse cardiovascular events by 20%.1,2 These agents inhibit distinct but interrelated signaling pathways that mediate and po...

Plasma tissue factor in coronary artery disease: further step to the understanding of the basic mechanisms of coronary artery thrombosis.

Tissue factor is a cell surface protein that is expressed constitutively by monocytes, macrophages and fibroblasts, but also by some other cells in response to a variety of stimuli. The main function of the tissue factor is to form a complex with factor VII/VIIa that converts factors IX and X to their active forms. Tissue factor is also involved in the pathophysiology of systemic inflammatory d...
